Are Steroids Evil?

July 24th, 2009 -- Posted in Supplements | No Comments »

Steroids are chemical substances which are closely related to the masculine sexual hormone, the testosterone, and they retain into their composition only the properties that trigger the growth in muscular and bone tissue.

Using steroids has been tested for the first time just before the first world war, on mice. The discoveries of the research made these substances a main focus point for sportsmen, especially for those who practice body building or fitness. Since steroids are not just any other vitamin pill, they should be only taken after a visit to the doctor.

These substances are also used in medicine, to treat certain problems and diseases.

Steroids can be administrated both orally or with the help of injections. Since oral assimilation of most drugs isn’t good, the same thing goes for steroids which get assimilated in a proportion of only 2% when taken under pill form. Small doses of oral steroids will not be as effected as expected because of this improper assimilation. Body builders do not care about the recommended doses, and they can even swallow during a day up to 1000 times more than they have been told to. The steroid users usually combine steroid types, and they might even end up using at certain points more than just one substance, or even try both the eatable and the injection versions at the same time. They think that this way they might encounter bigger success in no nonsense muscles building programs, even if this hasn’t been yet proved scientifically.

Medical personnel want to make people aware of steroid side effects and even if they don’t forbid their consumption they do warn people about them. If taken in little pills, steroids can seriously harm your liver.

The negative effects of steroids can affect the body in more than just one way, and our hormonal system takes the first strike and they can trigger serious hormonal unbalances Steroids can trigger hormonal changes that are reversible, but sometimes they also trigger irreversible changes. The reversible changes usually trigger the reproductive system and can even lead to impotence. There are many irreversible problems caused by the change in our hormonal systems such as baldness, prostate cancer, the development of estrogen, a female hormone, in a man’s body and so on.

You could also be experiencing bone problems or lack of mobility. You can even encounter problems at cardio-vascular, liver of skin levels. Even if some one these negative effects were proven beyond any reasonable doubt, it’s best to know that administrating these chemical substances must be done with great care and under strict supervision.

Taking Whey Protein Supplements? Do You know about Possible Side Effects?

June 26th, 2009 -- Posted in Supplements | No Comments »

You are always hearing that you need to check with your doctor before you embark on any fitness regime. That is always worth it. Going for a physical and a consultation with your doctor can get you some great advice on starting your workouts. It is easy to forget what you will be eating. It’s at least as important to talk about what you’ll be eating as what you’ll be doing. It’s common knowledge that you need to eat a lot of protein when you are working out a lot and trying to get fit. You can get this protein in in many ways from natural food, meats and fish etc to protein powder supplements and liquid protein supplements as well as protein bars. With all of these choices and medical sounding  claims its easy to get confused and one thing that you might be wondering is whether these protein supplements can cause any side effects. The short answer is no. Most of the supplements that you can get are simply food supplements and so not really different to eating large amounts of lean chicken breast – except much more convenient. It is always a good idea to consult your doctor as there is always the chance that you could expereince some side effects from whey protein.

Allergies.

If the person is allergic to anything in the ingredients then taking a whey protein supplement could cause an allergic reaction. there is always the possibility that something that goes into the supplement has come into contact with peanuts. This will usually be shown as a warning on the packaging.
If you are alergic to some type of food, peanuts for example, then you need to be extra careful and check the packaging of any protein powder that you are think ing of buying to make sure that you aren’t allergic to any of the ingredients. If you are not already alergic to anything, it probably isnt worth worrying about this.

Pumping iron.

It is important that you are working out hard if you expect to need a whey protein supplement. Basically, you will see no side affects from whey protein supplements when you are working out hard. Eating normal food and consuming a whey protein supplement are really very similar. Remember, you should get as much of your protein from normal food as you can, but it is very hard to get all of it that way and that’s where protein supplements come in.  Whey protein supplements help you to get the protein that you need, exactly when you need it.

The conclusion that you can take away from this is that side affects with a whey protein supplement are unlikely and not something that you should worry about unless you are already allergic to some foods. Try to eat as much of your protein as real food. Eat right, take a top quality protein supplement and most importantly, hit the gym hard and you will reach your goals in no time. Just to be sure though, talk to your doctor to make sure that you don’t suffer any
side effects from your whey protein supplement because of unknown allergies.

Acai Berries and its Side Effects

Acai Berry Side Effects

Acai Berries and its Side Effects

Anyone with even a passing interest in nutrition has already at least heard of acai supplements. This tropical fruit has a wealth of nutritional benefits to offer, but it is impossible to find them in your local grocery. (unless you happen to live in Brazil)

The fruit of a palm tree which grows in Brazil and other countries in the Amazon River basin, the acai berry is a popular fruit in South America and has been enjoyed for its taste and its health benefits for millennia.

You may not have even given any thought as to whether there are any acai berry side effects; they are just a fruit, after all. However they do have a few – all beneficial ones!

The Acai fruit perishes easily once the harvesting process is over. Thus, it is pulped, processed, and stored instead of being sold in its original form. The product we purchase is the frozen, dried, and powdered Acai berry. This also makes transporting these berries easier. The powder can easily transformed into its liquid form, say a smoothie, for drinking purposes. In the United States, Acai berries are available as either dried or frozen.

Let us discuss a bit regarding the side effects of these berries. There has been a solitary case of the Chagas disease that occurred on eating contaminated Acai berries. Those berries bore traces of the feces of a certain Brazilian parasitic animal. This particular disease has only affected the residents of South America and nowhere else. The symptoms that were reported by ailing patients were mainly vomiting, fever, muscle pain and in rare cases, swelling.

A staple food in the countries where it is grown, the acai berry is known as one of the most nutritious in the entire world. The benefits of this berry include an increased level of energy and reputedly an increase in libido as well.

If you are familiar with the health benefits of red wine, you already know about anthocynanin, which is an antioxidant compound present in red wine and is good for the heart. The acai berry happens to have ten times as much of this compound as does red wine.

If you purchase an Acai berry related product, however, run a check regarding the medicinal properties of the product. Ask your doctor about the products listed, if required. As a consumer, you must take the precautions required before consuming anything you are unused to.

While you have nothing to fear from the acai berry, it is always a good idea to know exactly what you are taking into your body. Do your own research and learn more about what this tropical fruit can do for your health!

Amino Acids: Get Pumped

September 30th, 2008 -- Posted in Supplements | No Comments »

How do some of those athletes and body builders look so sculpted with defined musculature? Well, there are a lot of factors at play to create a well-toned body and amino acid body building is one practice that seriously pumped up athletes rely on. Amino acids are often called the building blocks of the human body in layman’s terms but they are really the molecular building blocks that create protein.

Protein is one of the most essential components that create strong healthy muscles which is the reason why many athletes in strength training will indulge in amino acid body building, usually in the form of supplements and pushing weights.  Protein also fuels the health of your hair, nails, ligaments, tendons, central nervous system and even how your muscles retain water for maximum elasticity and strength.

Reasons for Taking Supplements

Many body builders have discovered that without enough amino acids in their system, the body tends to feed on its own muscles when faced with the crisis of not enough energy. This has led to the interest of amino acid body building to ensure that the body has plenty of fuel to build muscle rather than cannibalizing on it.

Serious body builders will take amino acid supplements either in a protein shake or pill form immediately after hard muscle exercises. This moment in time represents a unique opportunity to introduce amino acid into the body while the muscles still have optimal blood flow and is most amenable to nutrients. This timing takes a knowledgeable athlete to understand why amino acid body building can be very important.

Supplements: The Popular Ones

Glutamine is one of the most popular in amino acid body building because it is plentiful in the muscles and is known for promoting muscle growth. Arginine is another amino acid that is beneficial to your amino acid body building practices. This particular amino acid kicks off the growth hormone in your body and helps regulate the metabolism of the muscles, building bulk. Fat decreases while your connective tissue, cartilage and bone strengthens under amino acid body building practices.

Supplements are important as these days people are slacking on their diets and not getting enough proteins, which means not enough amino acids. Without these helpful body building blocks, you would eventually become weaker and lose muscle tone. Therefore, stick with amino acid body building and you will discover that your muscles will not only get the workout they need but that they are also growing larger, creating the telltale body builder sign of a sculpted muscles.

Get up off that couch and join the fitness revolution. Make exercise and a healthy diet part of your daily  routine, you will be surprised at the difference it will have on your life.
