My mother (65 years old) has been diagnosed with blood sugar which is slightly above the normal. Doctor has not given medicines but some diet restrictions. How can she lead a normal life without getting affected by Diabetes? She has a very active & healthy life so far, I wish to protect her from any unwanted troubles due to this onset of Diabetes. Please advise.
If diabetes could be described as having a personality, it most surely would be temperamental. It has volatile mood swings and easily flies out of control. It presents constant challenges, demanding discipline, restraint, and planning.
With good self-management, you can enjoy a healthy life and minimize your chances of developing complications.
Essential Steps for Keeping Healthy
Practice good blood sugar control.
Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly.
Have a glycosylated hemoglobin test every three to six months, or more often if you're pregnant.
Eat a healthy, varied diet, sticking to foods that are low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and limit "concentrated" sweets like candy.
Exercise regularly and maintain a normal weight.
Schedule regular visits with your doctor. Have your blood pressure and feet checked at all visits. Your doctor should test your blood lipids and kidney function regularly and do an annual EKG.
Have an annual eye exam by an ophthalmologist. This should be done from the time of diagnosis in people with type 2 diabetes, and starting five years after diagnosis in people with type 1 diabetes.
To avoid illness, stay up-to-date on your immunizations. Talk to your doctor about getting vaccinated against the flu, pneumococcal disease (such as pneumonia and meningitis), hepatitis, tetanus, and diphtheria.
Practice good foot and skin care.
Visit a dentist regularly.
Avoid risky behaviors, such as smoking or drug or alcohol abuse.
Learn as much as you can about diabetes, and educate others close to you.

I’m not a heavy smoker, I only smoke about 5 a day, but I still feel the addiction and I want and need to quit completely.
What is the most effective/successful way to quit smoking? I’ve been cutting down little by little. Is that the best way or should I just quit cold turkey and force myself to not smoke through sheer willpower?
I don't use the patch or gum because I don't believe in using crutches like that.
mattyboymma, Smoking addiction can be extremely serious. Many everyday people have lost jobs, homes, family, friends, and loved ones simply because they could not break thier smoking habit. I recommend you seek some help. I found a site that has addiction information and a directory of addiction treatment clinics so you can help. www.addictionselfhelp.com

Explain why you feel that it is important to be aware of the connection between time and stress management.
The reason it’s important to be aware of the connection between time and stress management is because time is usually the reason we feel stressed.
Think through a typical day. Do you spend most of your time thinking about what you need to get done (”I need to remember to stop by the store on the way home”, “I am so nervous about the upcoming test”), or do you invest much of your time reliving a moment you wish you could change (”I should have said…”, “I wish I had…”)?
Probably both right? That’s the problem. We live here, in this moment. We can attempt to plan for the future, or learn from the past, but we tend to spend most of our time in these places when the most important moment is now. We can take action now. We can change now. So what do we do?
1. Every time you walk through a doorway focus on your breath and make sure you are breathing with you belly. Breathe in making the inhale last for 4 seconds. Feel the cool air entering your nose and pause for 1-2 seconds. Exhale the warm air making the exhale last 4 seconds and pause for 1-2 seconds before inhaling again. Repeat as long as you wish.
2. Practice body scanning. Allow your attention to scan each part of your body for tension. Often when you feel tension you will find yourself in the wrong time zone. Come back to the present moment and begin tensing each muscle in you body one at a time for a few seconds and releasing. Rember to breath with your belly.
3. Place reminders where you can see them at your work station or at home so you will remember to be in the present.
4. Meditate. Meditation helps to train and disipline the mind. With practice you will find it easier to stay in the moment for longer periods of time.
Thank you for your time. I hope this helps.

I'm turning 30 soon, and have never really done the whole skin care thing other than washing my face in the shower. Now I'd like to start trying to take better care of my skin.
I have normal to combination skin that is prone to break outs on my forehead and chin. Very fine lines and dark circles under my eyes.
The best thing I could say is keep your face, neck and chest HYDRATED! and wear sunscreen on all those areas including your hands. Your hands and neck age 10 years before anything else. Try getting a facial or even a mini-facial as soon as you can and often
as you can. This will allow the products that you use to be more active because of removing the dead skin that ly in the fine lines and pores. If you are just using soap to wash your face, trade that in for some cleanser that wipes away impurities without overdrying. As for the breakouts that occur, keep an eye on what you eat. Try to cut down or stop dairy products. That should help your chin. If you are eating late at night or snacking late at night, you are not digesting like you should and that might be causing your forehead breakouts. Good luck on your venture. It is a life long committment but well worth it.

I am a 15 year old, overweight girl. I hate it when people make fun of me because of my weight – it is so embarassing! I would like to know the top secret fat loss secret from someone who is willing to share it with me. I can't afford to buy the book, or else I would. I'm desperate. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Any fat loss tips, too.
Thanks.
go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food after 7 p.m.
I know a woman who lost 60 pounds a month on it. She did nothing else!
and as for your book – go to a bookstore and browse it. Or go to amazon.com, find it and then click "search inside this book" – you will be able to read an extract.

I have a 13-month daughter and I'd like to give her a regular milk, but I don't know how to compare the nutrition. Can somebody tell me the easiest way to do that and also if possible pls mention the milk brand?
My daughter's pediatrician has said that from 12 months to four years a child should have Whole milk (if the child still isn't breastfed)… and after four years old that they can have 2%.
